The Yankees drafted Trey Amburgey in the 13th round with the 393rd overall pick of the 2015 Draft.  The right-handed hitting outfielder came to the Yankees from St. Petersburg Community College.

2015

On June 22, 2015, Amburgey made his professional debut with the GCL Yankees, going 1-for-4 with a stolen base against the GCL Phillies.  He went on to get 45 hits in the GCL over 37 games with 5 being doubles and four being triples, good for a .333 batting average.  After an injury to Jhalan Jackson opened a spot in the Staten Island Yankees outfield, he was promoted on August 15, 2015.

With the Staten Island Yankees, Trey put up video game numbers with a .367 batting average in 21 games (29 hits in 79 at-bats).  He had six doubles, two triples, five home runs while driving in 18 runners and stealing seven bases.  Amburgey’s success earned him New York-Penn League Plyer of the Week Honors in two consecutive weeks in August when he hit .545 in one week and .452 the next week.

2016

Amburgey opened the 2016 season with the Charleston RiverDogs of the South Atlantic League where he hit .281/.347/.500 over 16 games.  After going down with an injury, he was sent to the GCL for several rehab games before ultimately joining the Tampa Yankees.  With the T-Yanks, he hit .279/.304/.353 in 47 games in the Florida State League.   He also played in one game for the Trenton Thunder in the Eastern League Playoffs.

2017

Amburgey spent the entire 2017 season with the Tampa Yankees where he hit .236/.296/.382 in 121 games.  He hit left-handed pitchers better than righties, with a .287/.333/.508 hitting line against southpaws.
