The Yankees signed right-handed pitcher Deivi Garcia for $100,000 on July 2, 2015, out of Bonao, Dominican Republic.
Garcia made his professional debut in the Dominican Summer League, where he struck out 61 batters over 48 1/3 innings pitched. In 12 starts he earned a 1-5 record with a 2.61 ERA while limiting opponents to just a .149 batting average against. On August 8, 2016, he had one of his best games as a professional, striking out 10 batters in 4 1/3 innings against the DSL Rockies.
He opened the 2017 season back in the Dominican Republic where he was 1-1 with a 1.17 ERA in three games for the DSL Yankees. The right-hander struck out 18 batters in 15 1/3 innings pitched before being promoted to the Gulf Coast League Yankees West on June 26, 2017.
With the GCL Yankees West, Garcia was 3-0 with a 3.24 ERA in four games, two starts. He struck out 24 batters in 16 2/3 innings pitched, limiting opposing hitters to just a .155 average against him. His success was good enough for a second promotion to the Pulaski Yankees on July 24, 2017.
With Pulaski, he went 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA in six games, five starts, he struck out 43 batters over 28 innings of work during the regular season. In the postseason, Garcia made two appearances for Pulaski where he allowed four earned runs in 2 2/3 innings pitched while striking out four and walking five.
