After re-assigning six players to minor league camp yesterday, the Yankees have announced that they have optioned right-handed pitchers Albert Abreu and Jonathan Loaisiga to the Tampa Tarpons of the Florida State League, and infield Thairo Estrada to the Trenton Thunder of the Eastern League.
All three players were added to the Yankees 40-man roster this off-season. Loaisiga appeared in just one game this spring with the Yankees, striking out two batters in an inning of work out of the bullpen against the Atlanta Braves on March 2.
Abreu and Estrada did not play for the Yankees this spring. Abreu underwent an appendectomy prior to the start of games and Estrada is recovering from a bullet wound he received in his native Venezuela before spring training.
Minor league spring training begins in one week with the first set of games scheduled for March 16.
