After the rainout, last night, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders will be playing two games today. They will be facing their old teammate Drew Hutchison for the first time since he was released by the Yankees on June 17. Hutchison has made three starts since he signed with the twins, going 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 15 innings of work with seven walks and 17 hits allowed with the Red Wings.
Left-hander Drew Smeltzer will be pitching for the Red Wings in game two. The former fifth-round pick made his MLB debut earlier this season and is 0-2 with a 2.72 ERA in nine games with the Red Wings since joining them on May 2.
For the RailRiders, Raynel Espinal is scheduled to start game one. Espinal has been pitching well since being converted back into a starter. In 11 starts he owns a 4-5 record with a 3.13 ERA and 60 strikeouts over 54 2/3 innings of work.
The Rochester lineup features several familiar names including former Yankees prospect Jake Cave and former fan favorite Ronald Torreyes. Cave is hitting .327/.370/.536 for the Red Wings this year over 41 games. He also appeared in 28 major league games with the Twins going just 13-for-28 (.176). Torreyes is hitting just .207/.254/.379 in 30 games with the Red Wings.
Albert Abreu has been struggling recently for the Thunder. The hard-throwing right-hander was touched for eight runs, six earned, in his start on June 25 when he went just 4 1/3 innings. He allowed three walks and eight hits that game. Then in his last start on July 2, he failed to get out of the first inning, allowing five unearned runs to score on a walk and four hits. He has only pitched five or more innings in seven of his 15 games this season and opponents are hitting .270 against him.

The Threshers and Tarpons were postponed last night due to rain and the weather forecast is not looking much better for today. If they play the Tarpons will have Miguel Yajure and Trevor Stephan on the hill for them.
Yajure, 21, has gone under the radar with his strong 2019 season. He owns a 4-6 record with a 2.21 ERA in 14 games, 12 starts, and has struck out 74 batters in 77 1/3 innings of work. Stephan meanwhile has been struggling, he was 1-4, with a 6.27 ERA in 10 starts for the Thunder and since he was demoted to Tampa, he has pitched a 0-2 record with a 9.95 ERA.
It’s Gil day for the Charleston RiverDogs, the fire throwing right-handed pitcher is coming into the game with a 4-3 record and a 1.90 ERA in 14 starts for Charleston. He currently sits fourth in the South Atlantic League in strikeouts and second behind just Deivi Garcia in the organization in punch outs. He last faced Greenville on May 3 where he pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing just one earned run on two hits and four walks. He also struck out nine batters that game before being removed from the game due to a pitch count. In his last game, Gil threw 5 1/3 innings against the Augusta Greenjackets, striking out seven batters and walking two while allowing just one earned run.
The RiverDogs will be facing right-hander Kevin Biondic who is coming into the game with a 3-0 record and a 3.12 ERA. Opponents are hitting .271 against him. In his last game, he was touched for three runs on nine hits and two walks over five innings of work. He previously faced the RiverDogs twice in June, throwing five total innings. As a team, Charleston is hitting .222/.364/.278 against him. Just four of the 10 batters he faced got a hit off him, with Kyle Gray being the only one to connect for an extra-base hit. The RiverDogs have also walked four times against him.

After a rainout last night and a series loss to the Lowell Spinners, the Staten Island Yankees are returning home today to open a three-game set with the Connecticut Tigers. Getting the start for the Yankees will be 2019 compensation round pick T.J. Sikkema. Sikkema, 20, made his professional debut on June 29 with Staten Island, throwing three perfect innings against the Vermont Lake Monsters.
The 38th overall pick in this year’s draft, Sikkema pitched to a 7-4 record with a 1.32 ERA in 17 games, 13 starts, for Missouri where he struck out 101 batters in 88 2/3 innings of work. He will be backed up by fellow lefty Josh Maciejewski who is scheduled to piggyback off his start. Maciejewski is 2-1 with a 0.61 ERA in three games for Staten Island, striking out 16 batters in 14 2/3 innings of work.
The Yankees will be facing right-handed pitcher Carson Lance. Staten Island previously faced Lance on June 19 and plated four runs, two earned, on two hits and two walks. They ended up winning that game, 6-4. Overall, Lance has 23 strikeouts in 17 innings with the Tigers, he also played in three games for West Michigan and one game for Lakeland.
Pulaski Yankees (10-7) vs Bristol Pirates (10-8)

Gomez will be making his fourth start for the Pulaski Yankees, his first against Bristol. The 19-year old has struck out 15 batters in 16 innings of work and allowed just one earned run. He has limited opposing batters to a 2.18 average. In his last start, Gomez struck out five batters, walked three and allowed four hits in five innings of work. He also hit a batter in the game.
