TRENTON – On a night that saw Trenton earn a 4-3 victory over Akron with extremely limited bullpen availability, word came from Manager Bobby Mitchell following the game that reinforcements were heading north from Tampa to bolster their league-best pitching staff.
The 24-year old Tarpley, who was originally a third-round draft selection by the Baltimore Orioles in 2013, came over to the Yankees from Pittsburgh last summer along Tito Polo in the deal that sent Ivan Nova to the Pirates. Having been developed as a starter for the better part of his career, the Yankees have used Tarpley and his extensive repertoire of pitches out of the bullpen in 2017, and he has been the best reliever in the system this season.
In 14 games this season for High-A Tampa, the hard throwing lefty has tossed 30 shutout innings and has yielded just eight hits and struck-out 36 batters while holding the opposition to a microscopic .082 batting average. This will be Tarpley’s first taste of the minor leagues upper levels.
The 23-year old Sosebee was just promoted to Tampa from Low-A Charleston on August 12 and has tossed just one inning for the T-Yanks. The Yankees 2015 28th round draft selection is in the midst of a superb season that has seen him convert 11-of-12 save opportunities. In 61 2/3 innings of work, Sosebee has allowed just 45 hits and fanned 71 while limiting opponents to a .206 average.
