Although his career averages dipped (albeit a small sample size) this past season at Low-A, it is important to note that he was two-and-a-half years younger than his average competition.
That being said, the increased velocity that he displayed throughout the year is promising. At a lengthy 6-3, 165-pounds, De Paula still has room to fill in his frame as he continues to mature and develop. His fastball touched 95 mph several times this season, but that could quickly become his average fastball speed moving forward.
De Paula also features an above-average curveball that comes in around 78 mph and has a sharp break to keep hitters off-balance, as well as a change-up that saw improvement throughout the year. De Paula’s change-up comes at hitters in the 82-84 mph range and has shown signs of being a reliable weapon for the righty.
