Age: 18 (1998)
New York Yankees Vice President of Domestic Amateur Scouting, Damon Oppenheimer, selected right-handed pitcher Shane Roberts out of William T. Dwyer High School with the 842nd overall draft pick in the 28th round of the 2017 Draft.
Roberts is a starting pitcher with a live arm and can throw three pitches — two of which are considered plus-pitches. His fastball currently sits in the high-80s to low-90s range, but he can locate it well. Roberts also can flash an above-average change-up as well as a curveball that he throws in the 70s. The change of speeds keeps hitters off balance.
In November, Roberts signed his letter of intent to pitch for the South Carolina Gamecocks and will most likely pursue that route as he continues his development.
