New York Yankees Vice President of Domestic Amateur Scouting, Damon Oppenheimer, Selected Steven Williams with the 1052nd overall selection in 35th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

The Albany, Georgia native was the 146th, and 114th overall ranked player in this year’s draft by and Baseball America, respectively.

It has been said that Steven has an incredibly strong and accurate arm, two characteristics that are great for a catcher. Offensively, he has the ability to hit for both average and power.

Williams has told that he is “100 percent going to Auburn” and will not sign with New York.
