New York Yankees Vice President of Domestic Amateur Scouting, Damon Oppenheimer, selected pitcher Aaron McGarity out of Virginia Tech with the 452nd overall draft pick in the 15th round of the 2017 Draft.
Despite missing most of his 2016 season with an injury (only appearing in 10 games), McGarity was still drafted by the Boston Red Sox last year in the 34th round. However, the righty opted to return to school for his senior season and the move appears to have paid off.
A four-year player with the Hokies, McGarity finished his college career with 169 innings pitched, where he showed versatility by making 16 starts and closing out nine games. However, with a plus-two pitch repertoire (fastball and breaking ball) it would seem McGarity is best suited to be a valuable arm out of the pen as he moves forward.
