Gasper Wins Pinstriped Prospect’s Best Draftee Debut Award

Throughout the month of September, we have hosted various polls on Pinstriped Prospects so that our readers may help us name the top players throughout the system during the 2018 season.  The fans have spoken and named first baseman Mickey Gasper the 2018 recipient of the Pinstriped Prospects Best Draftee Debut Award.

Gasper, 22, was drafted by the Yankees in the 27th round of the 2018 draft out of Bryan University.  The switch-hitting first baseman was born in Merrimack, New Hampshire and was both a first baseman and catcher during his college career.

After signing with the Yankees, he was assigned to the Rookie-level Pulaski Yankees where he had a strong season hitting .259/.395/.496 in 42 games with six doubles, nine home runs, 30 RBIs and 30 walks.  He went on to have one at-bat for the Charleston RiverDogs before the season ended.

Gasper was a strong hitter while ahead in the count, hitting .300/.538/.520 during his 50 at-bats he had with the count in his favor.  He also was a better hitter with two outs on the board, hitting .313/.450/.463 in 41 at-bats in that situation. His 30 walks and 30 RBIs lead the Pulaski Yankees during the 2018 season.

Gasper won the vote with 36% of the vote, he was followed by Marcus Evey who had 29%, Max Burt who had 12% and Frank German who had 11%.
