Thunder Notebook: Roster Moves Galore

TRENTON – Prior to Saturday evenings match-up against the Erie SeaWolves at ARM & Hammer Park, the Thunder made a plethora of roster moves.

As reported last night, relievers Evan Rutckyj and Kyle Haynes were released by the Yankees after Trenton’s 4-2 loss. Right-handed reliever Colten Brewer has been promoted from High-A Tampa. The 24-year old Brewer is in Trenton and will wear number 39 for the club. In 9 1/3 innings pitched for Tampa, Brewer has been dominant against Florida State League competition; he has fanned 15 batters and allowed just one walk and three hits for a .091 batting average against. Reliever J.P Feyereisen has been activated from the DL (right shoulder) after missing the last 11 games.

Centerfielder Rashad Crawford was placed on the seven-day DL with a hip flexor after an outfield collision on Friday night. Jake Cave has been activated off of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre DL and was transferred to Trenton. He has joined the team and is batting second and playing centerfield tonight. Cave will wear number 13.

Yankees top-prospect Gleyber Torres is back in the field at shortstop after serving as the DH in his return from the DL on Friday.

Right-handed starter Ronald Herrera has been on the DL all season long but has joined Trenton and is here with the club. He is expected to be activated on Sunday and will start tomorrow in the series finale against Erie. Previously scheduled starter Chance Adams is being pushed back to start on Monday against Harrisburg according to Manager Bobby Mitchell.

Manager Bobby Mitchell did acknowledge on Saturday afternoon that Miguel Andujar has begun taking ground balls at first base with hopes of eventually playing him there in game action. Infielder Thairo Estrada is also slated to begin taking reps in the outfield.
