When the visiting New Hampshire Fisher Cats board the bus in Trenton on Sunday night and head home to face the Portland Sea Dogs on Monday, their team leader in homers (12) and RBI (54), Ryan McBroom will stay behind with his new team, the Thunder.
The Yankees announced on Sunday afternoon that they have traded the versatile Rob Refsnyder, who was designated for assignment on July 19, to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for McBroom.
After packing his bags and walking left down the hall way to join his new team, McBroom who was an Eastern League all-star, will likely take on his former teammates when the two clubs match-up in their series finale at ARM & HAMMER Park at 5 P.M.
McBroom’s now former team, the Fisher Cats, were in last place at 40-59 and trailing the Thunder by 26 1/2 games in the division after going just 2-18 against them thus far.. He will now move into the heart of the order on a Thunder team that has the best record in MiLB at 66-32.
The 25-year old right-handed hitting first baseman was selected in the 15th round of the 2014 draft out of West Virginia University, where he was teammates with Thunder infielder, Billy Fleming. Since that time, McBroom has shown immense power potential, having hit 57 homers and driven in 288 runs while slashing .280/.343/.459 in three-plus minor league seasons.
