The Tampa Yankees are currently riding a bit of a hot streak as of late coming into tonight’s game. After going 5-2 on their road-stretch, they returned to Steinbrenner Field last night with an extremely dominant outing from Zack Littell and six runs of support to secure a win. Littell pitched seven innings, recording eight strikeouts and giving up just a run in Tampa’s 6-1 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Trey Amburgey and Nick Solak put in their own work as well having a couple of RBIs each.
Tonight, Albert Abreu takes the mound to try and start a new winning streak for Tampa. Since his return from the DL he’s been limited to three innings a start out of caution for his elbow, his last start showed steady progression, as he totaled five strikeouts and gave up just a run in his three innings. The Yankees bats have gotten much better as well, and it now has them just two games behind the Dunedin Jays for first place in the Florida State League North, carrying a 27-25 record into tonight’s game.
This is the Yankees’ second game of an eight-game home-stand, it could be the best shot they have at making their way to the top of the division to secure a first-half title, just as last season.
