The Joe turns 21 on a night of spectacle at Riley Park
CHARLESTON, SC – Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg and the veritable who’s who of Charleston will be on hand as the RiverDogs kick off their 2017 season with the biggest 21st birthday party of the year on Thursday, April 6 at 7:05pm at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. Tecklenburg will welcome fans into the park with his piano stylings and lead the crowd in a roaring rendition of the National Anthem as the 2017 RiverDogs take the field for the first time to open the season with a seven-game homestand.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the pregame festivities with Mayor Tecklenburg tickling the ivories on a piano provided by Fox Music as the RiverDogs celebrate The Joe’s milestone year on the same day the club played their first game at their storied ballpark in 1997. The pregame ceremony will feature all the pomp and circumstance fans have come to expect before the club rolls into the birthday bash and the night’s opening contest against Lexington.
It’s a Budweiser Thirsty Thursday presented by 95SX featuring dollar beers and the scintillating tunes of DJ Natty Heavy in the remodeled and expanded Budweiser Ashley View Pub. Fans that turn 21 each Thirsty Thursday will receive free admission with proof of an ID and college students can secure tickets at the gate for just $5.
The first 3,000 fans in attendance will also receive a RiverDogs magnet schedule featuring the 2017 calendar.
Other Opening Week highlights include the first Home Telecom postgame fireworks show of the season on Friday on Tech Night presented by Google, the Helicopter Ball Drop on a night of raffle prizes on Saturday, an MUSC Health Family Sunday in the Holy City, the first Monday Dog Day of the season, and a Tony the Peanut Man tribute on Wednesday.
