The New York Yankees selected D.C. Clawson in the 34th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. The Brigham Young University commit played for Dana Hills High School in California this past season.

Evaluators have given Clawson very high praise for his catching ability. He possesses solid catch and throw skills, an above average arm and a quick release. While Clawson is considered as one of the best backstops in the nation, scouts have shown concern with his lack of impact at the plate. Baseball America ranked him as the 35th best prospect in the state of California and 230th overall in the country.
