The New York Yankees selected Bryson Bowman with the 998th overall selection in the 33rd round of the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. The Western Carolina outfielder was named second team All-Southern Conference by the media and the league’s head coaches.

The Baton, North Carolina native started in 61 of the Catamounts 62 games in 2016. He made three starts in center field and 58 in right. Bowman hit .326/.442/.661 with 19 home runs, three triples, and 13 doubles with 60 runs batted in. He also showed tremendous plate discipline by walking in 43 at bats, while striking out just 25 times.

Should the red-shirt junior return to school, he is expected to play for the Wilson Tobs in the Coastal Plain Collegiate Summer League.
