Alexander Palma signed with the New York Yankees on 7/2/12 for $800,000 as an international (non-drafted) free agent out of Miranda, Venezuela. In the entire 2012 international signing class, he was ranked as the fourth and seventh best prospect by Baseball America and MLB.com, respectively.

The Venezuelan native made his professional debut in 2013 for the (Rookie) Dominican Summer League Yankees 2 affiliate. In 37 games, Palma went on to hit .287 with two home runs, six doubles, and 16 runs batted in.

Palma earned a promotion in 2014 and made his stateside debut by playing on one of the two Yankees rookie ball Gulf Coast League (GCL) affiliates. He played in 52 games for the GCL Yankees 1 team, going on to hit .305 with four home runs, three triples, 13 doubles, 45 runs batted in, 22 runs scored, and nine stolen bases. Alexander dominated left handed pitching earning a .397 batting average. He led the entire GCL in runs batted in and finished second in hits and total bases. Palma was named as a GCL Postseason All-Star following his performance.

In 2015, Palma once again earned a promotion. This time, it was to the Class A (Low) Charleston RiverDogs affiliate. He hit .202 with one home run, four doubles, four triples, 26 runs batted in, and 21 runs scored in 81 games. Palma was also successful in stealing eight bases.

This season, Palma has spent the majority of his time in Tampa, FL at the Himes Player Development and Scouting Complex playing in Extended Spring Training. He just recently was called back up to Charleston. In just 5 at bats, Alexander is hitting .800/.800/1.000 with one double.

Palma has tremendous bat speed and barrels up the baseball on a consistent basis. He has got a clean, fluid swing coupled with a projectable body that could see him develop future power. In his career, Alexander has shown an ability to make adjustment to off-speed offerings with a solid overall hitting approach. Defensively, he has an average arm coupled with average speed. Due to Palma’s thick lower half and big body, conditioning will be a very important facet in his development.
