For the second straight game the Charleston RiverDogs came from behind to defeat the Columbia Fireflies, giving them a 2-0 record to start the 2016 season. They go for three-in-a-row with left-handed pitcher Joshua Rogers scheduled to make the start for the RiverDogs.
Rogers, 21, was an 11th round pick by the Yankees in the 2015 First-Year-Player Draft out of Louisville. He made his professional debut with the Staten Island Yankees last season where he threw 7 innings over 3 games, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 10 before earning a promotion to the Charleston RiverDogs. He appeared in 2 games for the RiverDogs, throwing 6 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs on 3 walks and 9 hits while striking out 6.
As professional Rogers has yet to start a game but did make 25 starts in 30 games for the University of Louisville between the 2014 and 2015 seasons. During that time, he was 11-4 with a 3.45 ERA and 129 strikeouts over 146 innings pitched.
Thomas Mcllraith will get the ball for the Fireflies, the 22-year old from Amarillo, Texas was 6-1 with a 1.71 ERA over 12 games, 9 starts, for the Kingsport Mets in 2015. Over 58 innings in 2015 he struck out 34 and walked 19.
At the plate Kyle Holder is batting .375 in this young season with 3 hits while Connor Spencer is 2-for-4 in 1 game. Jeff Hendrix has 3 hits over 8 at bats during the first 2 games for a .375 batting average.
